Welsh Rugby has a number of vacancies in the management teams of the following WRU squads for the season 2008-09:
* Wales Sevens
* Wales Under 20
* Wales Under 18
The following roles are likely to be available in each squad:
* Team Manager
* Head Coach
* Assistant Coach
* Assistant Coach
* Fitness Coach
The appointment panel will be WRU National Performance Manager, WRU National Head Coach, National Coach Development Manager and the WRU Group CEO.
These vacancies are open to anyone in an appropriate position who feels they meet the specific job descriptions and role criteria (below), against which appointments will be made.
Applicants should be aware that National Squad philosophy has to be geared around a context of holistic player development, and in the understanding that the long-term development plan for those players will be managed in many cases at regional or academy level.

JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Job Title Gogledd Cymru Performance Manager (WRU)
Salary: £25k plus car
Location: WRU Wrexham Office
Hours of work: The standard hours will be 37 per week (excluding meal breaks) but the nature of the role may on occasions require working in excess of these hours to ensure core objectives are achieved. This may include evening and weekend work.
Responsible to: Gogledd Cymru, Rugby Community Development Manager
Responsible for: To provide a complete management and support service to identified members of the College Centres of Excellence, ensuring that the players are given the opportunity to develop their potential in becoming Elite performers. Also, to manage and coordinate all the staff/work at these centres, providing CPD for staff.
To manage support agencies to the Gogledd Reebok teams & oversee the development U20 and Senior Rep teams
To disseminate modern trends and techniques to the coaches of North Wales Clubs
Contractual Status: Subject to annual appraisals
2. Role Summary To implement the Elite Player /Elite Coach Development programme within the region.
3. Key responsibilities and main tasks and activities
• Work with the National & Scarlets Management teams to understand and develop their philosophy and disseminate it to all areas of Skills/Conditioning/Coaching work
• Identify and profile potential 12 – 18 year old elite players
• To initiate, monitor and provide support to the College satellite sites(part time staff)
• Managing the Regional Staff for the Reebok teams at 16, 18 and support U20s ans Senior squads
• Support the Management of the Gogledd Womens Representative Squads
• Organise, implement and evaluate all regional representative player development courses.
• Compile database for all regional representative rugby players between 16, 18,
• Identify & monitor progress of Pre Academy players(U14+)
• Whenever necessary attend meetings with affiliated groups/relevant organisations, in order to clarify regional player development strategies, commitments, etc.
• In conjunction with the RCDM, appoint all Regional/District Management Teams.
• Ensure job descriptions/outlines are provided to all of the R/DMT’s.
• Arrange a pre-season meeting with the R/DMT’s to set clear objectives/guidelines for the coming season.
• Provide R/DMT with player/coach/support staff codes of conduct.
• Ensure R/DMT are aware of discipline & grievance procedures, for the group.
• Ensure that player profiles are produced for all Pre. Academy and Academy players in the regional/district squads.
• Conduct a minimum of 2 appraisals per year for the Regional /District Coaches & support staff.
• Identify training & development needs for all Regional /District Management Teams. Arrange C.P.D.
• Manage the Regional Performance budgets as agreed with the WRU & RCDM
• Arrange meetings on a regular basis with R/DMTs in order to ensure clarity in pursuing objectives.
• Conduct Annual Appraisals for Part Time Staff at Colleges
• Identify training & development needs for Part Time Staff at Colleges
• Monitor Pre. Academy and Academy work and coordinate reporting procedures through the WRU
• In partnership with WRU and Regional Academies liaise with Nat Selectors on key players based in North Wales
• Produce a monthly & annual report for the WRU which outlines achievements, lack of achievement, by both the Regional/District Teams & College Centres.
• Liaise with other identified colleagues to develop a reporting procedure that is standardised & evidenced based.
• Deliver coaching sessions to regional teams, units, individuals & players.
• Provide video analysis network in support of the College Work & regional /District teams.
• Pursue good practice by forging close links with the professional coaching & support staff of the Scarlets and National Squads.
• Actively promote good practice to the North Wales Coaching Association and to all regional levels of the game.
PERSON SPECIFICATION DESCRIPTION
1. QUALIFICATIONS
Essential: Minimum WRU Level 3 coaching qualification or equivalent recognised.
Desirable: A formal qualification or considerable experience in the rugby industry or management.
2. EXPERIENCE
Essential: Minimum of three years experience within the rugby coaching environment or equivalent. This experience will have been gained in a practical environment and, preferably, at different levels of the game
Desirable: Experience of coaching at a high performance level.
Ability to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and competence within coaching environment.
3. KNOWLEDGE
Essential: Understanding and awareness of the issues facing high performance coaching, teaching and instructing.
An understanding of the practical, educational/vocational and social needs of 16-21 year old elite young players
A working knowledge of the Skills,Conditioning and Analytical requirements of the Performance game
Desirable: A working knowledge of the culture and organisation within the Welsh Rugby Coaching structure.
An understanding of the needs of coaches within a high performance environment.
